VOCATIONS Young women between the ages of 22-40 who are interested in a monastic vocation in the shadows of a university may contact us for further information. Monastic formation generally follows these steps: an observorship in which the candidate lives for a time with the sisters in the monastic setting; a postulancy lasting for about 6 months; a novitiate of 18 months followed by the taking of first vows. The juniorate or period of temporary profession follows and usually lasts for 3 years but may be extended. At the end of this period, the junior sister makes her solemn (final) vows and is a full member of the community. Please note that we are monastic and therefore do not have a ministry as do active sisters. Although we are not as strictly enclosed as are many communities of cloistered women, each candidate should prepare herself for the full monastic life. |
